Courtroom Discourse of the ‘Hybrid’ Japanese Criminal Justice System
Ikuko Nakane is Associate Professor at the Asia Institute, University of Melbourne. Her main areas of research are legal discourse, multilingualism and silence in communication, and more recently, stylistic variation across life stages in Japanese. Her publications include Silence in Intercultural Communication (John Benjamins, 2007), Interpreter-mediated Police Interviews (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014), Languages and Identities in a Transitional Japan (Routledge, 2015, editor and contributor).She has also published articles in journals such as Applied Linguistics, Journal of Pragmatics and Semiotica.
